Three Handbuilt Ceramic Mugs
I handbuild my ceramic pieces with a mid-fire range, white clay. It shows off the colors and textures so well.
I texture the clay with found objects or ceramic rollers that I carved myself. I form the clay into cylinders for teapots, pitchers, or mugs, let them dry and fire them to bisque.
After they are bisque, I paint on a glaze or underglaze. I often wipe off the color to reveal the texture in the clay.
I usually use clear glaze on the outside but always on the insides to make the pieces functional.
They are fired again to a higher temperature which makes them non-porous and functional to hold water and be dishwasher and microwave safe.
No two pieces are alike. I love to experiment!
