My Repertoire

Hand-Built Ceramics

What do I do? I handbuild my ceramic pieces with a mid-fire range, white clay. It shows off the colors and textures so well.

I texture the clay with found objects or ceramic rollers that I carve myself, after which I form the clay into teapots, pitchers, mugs, and more using the clay almost like fabric. After the clay dries, it is fired to bisque.

At this stage, I paint on a glaze or underglaze. I often wipe off the color to reveal the texture in the clay.

I use glaze on the outside for an enhanced shine and color and I always use glaze on the insides to make the pieces functional.

They are fired again to a higher temperature which makes them dishwasher and microwave safe but hand washing is even better!

No two pieces are alike. No production pottery here.

I love to experiment!

Fabric Art

My love of adventure and travel has taken me all over the world.  One of the things I like best, about traveling, besides eating new foods, is what I see with my camera or iPhone!

I am especially drawn to patterns, textures and colors.

I print my photos onto upcycled cotton, often men's white dress shirts because the cotton is so deliciously smooth. I enhance parts of the image with hours of hand-stitching using cotton, wool or silk threads. This is a form of meditation for me, slo-stitching. The end piece is highly textured and detailed. It is a visual mystery inviting an interaction between the viewer and the artwork that is as evocative as it is intriguing.

Wearable Art

I have not been making my upcycled, felted wool wearables for a few years but I’m leaving this here, in case you would like to order something special.

The process of felting causes the natural fibers in the found sweaters and scraps to shrink and tighten. Once a piece is felted, the material becomes more dense and won’t unravel when it is cut into any shape.

I remake (or repurpose) them into brand new sweaters, scarves, shawls, and bracelets. I hand-stitch with 100% wool yarn. The detail work is like doodling but with a needle. I never know what the end result will be!

Since every new wearable is one-of-a-kind, I cannot make the same item in a different size. BUT call me and I can show you what I have in stock and I can MAKE something just for you!
